Around the (Parking) Garage...

Next to the office building where I work is a parking garage where, in addition to parking spaces, resides an entire world full of things (animal, vegetable, and mineral) for whom their entire universe consists of the ecosystem around this concrete monolith. It's really kind of fascinating if you spend a little time looking around in the cracks around the facade.

Obviously, some of the less parking garage-like, but still quite normal to the human experience, features include things like stairs, green space, along with the requisite ramps, entryways, and exits.

And we also have some of the more parking garage-like features that everyone is familiar with (everyone who has ever navigated a parking garage, that is), such as stripes.

Or, stripes and poles.

< Maybe just poles.

And even cables to keep you from falling over the edge and into the street below
(messy, messy, messy-I'm just saying).

But look beyond the obvious and you'll find, tucked in among the rocks and leaves and ramps and entryways...

A natural world of plants, insects, and other living things, all of which will lead you to a world less obvious, a world more...

Alien.

A little scary.

Or, if you add a bit of post-processing magic...

Surreal and Otherworldly.

Your Campbell's Cream of Mushroom Soup it ain't. But then again, nobody is going to mistake the friendly neighborhood parking garage for the soup aisle at Kroger either. Or if they do, I'll be eating elsewhere and probably you should too.

The story related above is little more than words strung together from the deranged mind of Dale Ellis (that would be me) as a way of filling the spaces between photos. Because for me it's all about the photos. This should in no way be considered a derogatory commentary on parking garages, Kroger, Campbell's Soup, or your best friend's dinner invitation.

If you enjoy the photos you see on this blog you can see my complete collection (sans commentary) here.
